My story

About Leona

My professional values can be summed up as follows: Confidential, Respect, Change. I’ve developed a deep understanding of what happens in the real world over my 9 years in the psychotherapy industry, my own lived experience and from this believe there is nothing that can’t be talked through.

As a professional, I take pride in my ethical practice and thrive on finding solutions with my clients. I enjoy working in an environment of discovery and research, as it allows me to constantly learn and challenge my own thinking. As a professional, I’m constantly questioning and looking for answers that improve the lives of my clients.

A Short Biography

Leona and 2Live

Professional development and the  foundation of  2live Psychotherapy

College & Qualifications

After earning my BA in Psychology from NUI Maynooth and my Grad. Dip and MA in Integrative Psychotherapy from The University of Limerick, I entered the Psychotherapy world to explore my passion for working with people to help them understand their relationships, their mental health, and how they tick.

I'm focused on where behaviours get set up, how coping mechanism manifest, and how to change unhealthy patterns of relating. I’ve spent the last 14 years learning about psychology, psychotherapy and emotional wellbeing.

Roles & Aspirations

I’m currently applying this knowledge in working with clients. I've held a number of caring roles, from Rehabilitation Assistant to Social Care Worker, but my latest challenge has been growing my own company in two areas; working in private practice and also in corporate wellbeing. I believe that psychotherapy and wellbeing require passion and empathy as well as a strong will.

I aspire to always work with my clients in a way that respect’s their individuality, their own experience and their unique way of being in the world.

Business History

I opened my psychotherapy doors on 1st January 2017 with the advice of my course tutors, course director and friend, Gerry Myers. I had always known I wanted to work as a psychotherapist and that I wanted to be self-employed. My private practice began in The Dancing Soul, Athlone, where I had served my professional placement under supervision of the University of Limerick and the guidance of Julie Fuery and Martina Breen. From here I opened a second clinic in Dr. Garry’s Surgery, “Health” Tullamore and then a third clinic in Mullingar aided by Seamus Sheedy.

Online & Corporate

With the Covid-19 pandemic I also transitioned my private psychotherapy practice and corporate wellbeing sessions online.

The second part of my business; Corporate Wellbeing open in 2018, with training workshops, onsite education sessions on Mental Health and wellbeing across a variety of business sectors. It lends itself to a hectic but rewarding work-life balance.

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

My Passion

To keep exploring...

… To keep learning. For which I’m in the right industry. It’s pretty straight forward really, and forward is the direction I want to keep going, the past is an exquisite mine for learning from, but you must do something with this resource to really make your own future and 2 live as no other can.

My passion is always to climb higher and know more. I love to get out and about and reflect on my day or my week working with amazing people, who have survived so much and now are brave enough to get up and 2 live again.

An old Scout leader once told me I was like a sponge for “how to’s” and that I’d always be hungry for another trek. I love the idea of adventure but I’m incredulous to know how we can map 13.5 billion light years out in space but we haven’t fully come to understand how we ourselves work emotionally or cognitively, and this will be one of my realms for discovery.

My passion allows me “2 live” in the moment and to cherish and be grateful for all that I have, to enjoy and get satisfaction from my work and cherish my loving and supportive family, both human and canine alike.

My Goals

Every day I work with people setting goals for change and development. I get ideas from my clients all the time and that’s the beauty of my work. I like new challenges, setting and staying on my own agenda. My personal growth goals at the moment are focused on only saying positive things about others. This is a nod to my late uncle Seamus, a legend in his own lifetime and who gave me a love for golf, which reminds me, I need to get some lessons #goalnumber2! I love to be out of bed each morning to see the sun rise, a work in progress since July. I’ve only missed a couple so far and it’s easier in winter!

While on my morning walks with the dogs, I reflect a lot and create new goals. A new goal that came to me when I was remembering my very special sister, who I carry with me each day in my heart. So my goal is to make this as loving a home as possible, with no self-doubt, criticism or old lingering grievances, she was, after all my number one fan and encourager.

My last goal for 2020 is to make time to be creative, I love working with my hands and making something crafty and this ties in to my work goals, watch this space for a new client diary, coming in 2021 and some new online trainings!
